Qualitative Assessment provided
Odour Consultants were commissioned to undertake the odour assessment in support of the full planning application for a new residential plot.
Project Outline
Odour Consultants (ODC) supported the planning application for a new residential estate, comprising the construction of 23 dwellings, new access, parking and associated landscaping including 40% affordable housing and self-build plots.
The site was located close to a wastewater treatment works, odours from which have the potential risk of causing nuisance at the site as well as affecting amenity.
Our Role
ODC produced the odour assessment for the planning application, forming one of the key documents for the application. The assessment involved a qualitative odour risk assessment, based on the source-receptor-pathway methodology taking account of local meteorological conditions.
The key concern was the nearby wastewater treatment works. ODC provided a qualitative risk assessment to address the potential risks and demonstrate there would be no adverse effects on amenity.
As part of this, ODC reviewed local odorous sources and previous planning applications. Our team identified that another residential development located closer to the wastewater treatment works was recently granted planning permission, giving a strong basis for our development being approved.
Although the application was refused for other reasons, both the Council and Inspector were satisfied with the assessment and findings of our odour assessment.
