ODC supported a local parish regarding concerns of odour and air quality nuisance from the business park upon local residents.

Robust Evidence provided
Odour Consultants and Air Pollution Services were commissioned to undertake odour and air quality assessments to determine whether the business park was having an unacceptable effect on local residents’ amenity.
Project Outline
Odour Consultants (ODC) undertook an odour assessment to understand the level of odour being released from the multiple facilities within the business park and whether they were causing adverse effects upon local residents, in terms of nuisance, annoyance and disamenity.
Air Pollution Services (APS) undertook an air quality assessment to understand the level of air pollution being released from the multiple facilities within the business park and whether they were causing adverse effects upon local residents, in terms of nuisance, annoyance and disamenity.
The key facilities of concern included a landfill site, energy from waste facility, asphalt plant, waste management facility, soil remediation facility and others.
Our Role
ODC carried out field odour surveys (sniff tests) to ascertain the current intensity and characteristics of odour being released and where it was detectable in the local area. This was supplemented with a qualitative odour risk assessment and an analysis of complaint histories, following good practice guidance.
APS undertook dust monitoring at a number of locations of sensitive exposure as well as walk throughs of the business park public roads. In addition, APS reviewed local complaints and baseline conditions, as well as producing a qualitative risk assessment, utilising a source-pathway-receptor model.
