Odour Consultants were commissioned to undertake the odour assessment in support of the full planning application for a new slurry tower.

Project Outline

Odour Consultants (ODC) supported Bromfield Hall Farm with their planning application for a new slurry tower at their farm in Allerdale. Due to the new Environmental Permitting Regulations regarding slurry spread in summer months only, the farm was required by the Environment Agency to make changes to stop slurry being spread during winter. As a producer of slurry, the farm was unable to fulfil this requirement due to its existing slurry tower capacity being too small. The planning application was submitted for a new slurry tower that would have an increased capacity, allowing slurry to be stored throughout the winter months, such that the farm could adhere to the EA EPR requirements.

Our Role

ODC produced the odour assessment for the planning application, forming one of the key documents for the application. The assessment involved a qualitative odour risk assessment, based on the source-receptor-pathway methodology taking account of local meteorological conditions. ODC are delighted to have been involved in this application, which was subsequently granted planning permission.
