News for Farmers

Important changes to the environmental permitting regulations are forcing many slurry spreaders across England to upgrade their storage.

Due to the new Environmental Permitting Regulations regarding slurry spread in summer months only, the farm was required by the Environment Agency to make changes to stop slurry being spread during winter. Many producers of slurry are unable to fulfil this requirement due to existing slurry storage capacities being too small. This is forcing many farmers to pay to upgrade their storage to achieve larger storage capacities, allowing slurry to be stored throughout the winter months, such that farmers can adhere to the EA EPR requirements. As part of this, farmers typically require planning permission, adding further costs.

Odour Consultants have been supporting farmers with storage solutions and associated planning applications. Our team focuses on early engagement with farmers to assist with minimising financial risks associated with planning applications, which can become contentious over odour if not considered carefully.
